There are about 170 different mosquito species in United States and two of them spread diseases. They are Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. Let’s us know these two species well and learn what diseases they could spread to humans.
Yellow fever mosquito, Aedes aegypti, can spread the dengue fever, chikungunya and yellow fever.
Tiger mosquito or forest mosquito, Aedes albopictus, transmitting dengue and chikungunya viruses but it has also been found infected in nature with the following viruses: West Nile, Eastern equine encephalitis, Japanese encephalitis. It can also transmit dog heartworm parasites.
